DHDI | Innovation
Innovation is the cornerstone of evolution.
From the Romans, to the Industrial Age, and continuing through today, human culture evolves with quantum leaps in technology.
Long before the age of the automobile, the Romans devised a long-lasting system of roads and the technology to build them; many of which are still in existence today. Steam Engines changed human civilization in the industrial age, shrinking the time to traverse long distances and giving rise to a litany of inventions. As recent as the 1960’s, the need for a global computer communication network gave rise to the ARPANET, which we commonly call the internet.
Each and every one of these technological inventions dramatically altered the course of humanity. Their very existence has become part of human history. Without these Innovations, society would not be what it is today.
Yet some things remain the same.
The World Health Organization and the European Union state that airborne Noise is currently Health Issue Number One. Since the advent of steam engines, Noise has become a human issue worldwide.
It still is today. Only today, the noise issue is worse than ever.
Thankfully, Innovation arrives at an opportunistic moment in time. The discovery of Quantum Acoustics followed by the invention of ZR Acoustics allows us to control sound energy with smaller, lighter, flexible devices. Weighing in over 10 times lighter, and thinner by over a factor of 20, this innovation has already changed the very nature of how mankind addresses sound and noise challenges.
While ZR Acoustics began as a means to an end, it has long since transcended its’ original intent. It was invented to design thinner, smarter, World Class Recording Studios with dramatically improved acoustics, above and beyond traditional acoustic technology.
Acoustics is the Science of Sound. Historically, our understanding of science has helped us control sound energy. In entertainment, the goal is to emulate the sound of the great outdoors but interioraly; inside of a building. This one, simple task has eluded mankind since the beginning of time. More recently, since the invention of microphones and speakers.
At long last this task has been achieved through the application of Quantum Acoustics and ZR Acoustics Devices.
Just as Smart Phones today are called “devices” vs. “electronics” back when the technology was new, one day ZR Acoustics will be ubiquitous and so commonplace that everyone will have it embedded in their walls, cars and offices.
This is the process of Evolution. At first the technology is New, fascinating and a curiousity.
Over time it becomes everyday and a normal part of society.
We are at the forefront of a historical moment where Acoustics dramatically effects our lives, and Quantum Acoustic technology is changing the way we record and process sound, and the way sound is dealt with architecturally, in buildings, highways and cities.
Thanks to the discovery of Quantum Acoustics and the invention of ZR Acoustics we are at the crossroads of Innovation and History.
The only constant is change – Heraclitus
At DHDI we watch, look and listen. A recipe of attentive listening, relentless materials research, and attention to detail helps us understand the needs and desires of cultures, and of humanity. From this framework, anything can be created.
Everything we design must sound, look and feel beautiful. – Hanson Hsu | DHDI founder
Quantum Acoustics
The Re-Invention of Acoustics is the confluence of design, science and technology. The innovation of acoustics began with the question “what is the root cause of acoustical issues?” The answers led us to start in the beginning, before the problems can exist. This was the beginning of understanding quantum acoustics, a new way to approach the root causes of acoustical issues, and a way to render them simply non-existent.
The result is a paradigm which applies quantum physics to air molecules, the carrier medium for sound. This revolutionary concept was driven by the late great Mike Shipley’s studio project, and named ZR for “Zero Reflection” Acoustics. Quantum Acoustics is a new, innovative science, with advanced applied technologies emerging constantly. The ZR MultiVerse is rich with options, making it easier than ever before to find the right tool for the right job.
Architecture
With thoughtful design, ubiquitous materials and business acumen, DHDI creates building structures suited to the freedoms we all yearn for. The freedom to live creatively, the freedom to live anywhere, the freedom to move anywhere, and the freedom to live and work in any fashion we so choose.

In 2006 the very talented Mike Shipley started his new life after Mutt Lange and Shania Twain, and demanded a new idea for a studio with his new Digidesign Icon console. His ultimate challenge of a rectangular room with performance levels of Record Plant or Real World Studios, gave rise to the ultimate listening experience, ZR Acoustics®. Once upon a time, heavy thick and trapezoidal were the norm in acoustics and studio design. Today, thanks to the vision of Mike Shipley, spherical, life-like imaging with wall-to-wall sweet spots are the new reference standard for acoustics.
